Not eaten by cattle, this can give management problems. If too predominant, fields have to be 'topped' before it seeds. However, Teal especially use the seeds as a major food item
Folklore. A dock root tied across the thighs was thought to be a preventative for the Bailiff of the Marshes - the Ague, a form of malaria suffered by many locals - the last recorded case was in 1927.
