Please note all Applicants must be members of BASC. All Full, Student and OAP members must also hold a VALID Shotgun Certificate.

Categories of Membership

Junior membership is available up to the age of eighteen years. When this age is reached, Juniors automatically become Full members unless they enter full-time further education or an apprenticeship, when they may become Student members. Junior members must always be accompanied by an adult FWA member whilst on FWA land.

Student membership is available to applicants (upon proof of status) whilst they are in full-time education (including apprenticeship). If a student member has too little experience to shoot alone, they must continue to be accompanied until such time as they are considered proficient.

Full membership is available to those over the age of 18, the age from which it is legally allowed to shoot unaccompanied.

OAP membership is automatically available to all applicants once they are in receipt of the State Pension.

There is a category of Associate membership which may be granted by the Standing Committee. The subscriptions, rights and privileges of Associate members shall be defined by the Standing Committee. Any

Associate shooting members shall also be members of BASC. The Standing Committee may offer this class of membership at its discretion.

The membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March. New members are admitted throughout the year.

FWA Members shoot the foreshore on an Annual Permit (their membership card). There is an additional Daily Permit fee of £7.50 to shoot the inland washes (Junior members FOC.) Inland washes daily permits are booked on line.

A Full member who joins without previous foreshore wildfowling experience will be required to undergo a period of mentorship until they are deemed to be proficient enough to shoot alone on the foreshore. For those who do not already know an existing member who will accompany them, the FWA has a number of mentors, acting via a What’s App group, under the Foreshore Manager, who will accompany them at mutually agreed times. Foreshore Training events will also be held during the season where members will receive training and be signed off to shoot unaccompanied on the foreshore. No restrictions apply to the inland washes.

We hold a New Members meeting in August, where shotgun certificates and BASC cards will be checked, and two tours of the inland washes in September
